Senior Engineering Manager, Machine Learning & AI

### Company Overview Toast creates technology to help restaurants and local businesses succeed in a digital world, helping business owners operate, increase sales, engage customers, and keep employees happy. ### Role Overview As a Senior Engineering Manager for ML & AI, you will: - Partner across the R&D organization and represent the team as the data science and machine learning thought leader. - Set directions for the Data & AI team to deliver innovative machine learning solutions using our vast reservoir of restaurant, payments, and orders data. - Collaborate with data scientists, machine learning engineers, product managers, and fellow engineering managers to turn ML/AI solutions into business impact across product lines. ### Responsibilities - Lead, influence, and contribute across R&D to drive business value for Toast and our restaurant customers. - Collaborate closely with product and engineering stakeholders to drive strategic direction for Toast’s AI-enabled products. - Help shape and execute the vision of the ML Platform at Toast. - Break down larger ML initiatives into smaller problems that enable data science to deliver incremental business value. - Coach and mentor data scientists and ML engineers. - Incorporate up-to-date data science approaches as best practices for the team. ### Requirements - Advanced degree in Data Science, Statistics, Applied Math, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent disciplines with 5+ years of experience leading Data Science & ML Engineering teams. - Experience deploying machine learning solutions in large-scale production environments. - Strong knowledge of statistical and machine learning foundations. - Experience with ML model building using libraries such as Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, and PyTorch. - Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and product stakeholders. - Strong communication skills, with the ability to present findings to senior management. ### Bonus Ingredients - Problem solver with a passion for research and innovation in AI.
